Music Catch 2 is the sequel to the highly-rated Flash game Music Catch game by Reflexive. In this simple yet very elegant game, you use your mouse pointer to avoid red-colored shapes which appear on the screen while trying to capture all the other differently-colored shapes. You should pay special attention to the yellow, purple, and blinking shapes, which do more than just increase your score.

Music Catch 2 is more of an experience than a game. This game takes the collect-the-objects mechanic and wraps it around a very stylish atmosphere of visuals and music, which gives the player a reward-filled peaceful feeling.

What makes this game different from the original is the addition of unlockable game options. Instead of offering a single game experience, it is now possible to combine different shapes, visualizations, and music. The fountain / waterfall-like visualization of the original game makes a return, but the new visualizations in the sequel are interesting experiences as well.

In the sequel, when you hit a red shape, your multiplier decreases just like in the original, but now you are given the chance to recover the multiplier that you lost by catching the yellow shapes which explode from the cursor, just like in Sonic the Hedgehog. Also, I am impressed by the behavior of the shapes in the sequel - their seemingly physics-based motion look more obvious here than in the original, and this is something that you would notice when a Purple Power power-up stops its effect and the motion of the shapes goes back to normal - it's almost like a split-second bullet time effect.

I've always wondered if the visualization is procedural, meaning, is the motion of the shapes computed purely from the music and not animated by hand? Either way, the end result is quite impressive!

Move your mouse over the shapes to collect them as they appear to the music. No clicking necessary! Blue/Green shapes give you points. Yellow shapes will increase your multiplier and make your cursor bigger. Red shapes will reduce your multiplier and make your cursor smaller. Purple shapes are POWER! And those colorful shapes... well, you'll just have to see for yourself what those do!

Catch all the new shapes, patterns, motions and songs! The task is simple...the more shapes you collect, the more points you get. Yellow shapes still multiply your points, but what does the pulsing color shape do? Unlock new shapes, patterns and even the ability to play your own music as you go further and further into the musical world of Music Catch!
