If this does push through, I’m wondering if Microsoft will offer a way for hobbyists or independent developers to make their own games for it, ala Game Studio Express. My impression is that it will be much more achievable for a single person / person with very limited or no financial resources to make games for the Zune than for a PC with a graphics card that supports shaders, although this assumption is quickly becoming false as technology advances. I think that Microsoft is currently doing a great job of making developer tools available to everyone, coupled with excellent learning resources. With Game Studio Express, it is now possible to develop for a platform that is not PC-based, in particular, the XBox 360. I just hope that they continue this trend and make developing games and apps for their other devices possible for the most number of people as well.
